One of the most common questions I get from engaged couples is, “What should we wear?” The good news: you don’t need a whole new wardrobe to look amazing in your photos. With a few simple guidelines, we can style outfits that feel like you and photograph beautifully.

Start with Your Personal Style
Your engagement photos should look like a polished version of your real life—not a costume. Think about what you naturally reach for when you want to feel confident and comfortable, then elevate it with nicer fabrics, layers, or accessories.
Colors That Photograph Well
Neutrals, earthy tones, and soft, muted colors tend to photograph best and keep the focus on your faces. Bright neons or very bold patterns can be distracting, but we can absolutely incorporate a pop of color through one person’s outfit or accessories.

Coordinating Without Matching
Instead of wearing the exact same color, aim for outfits that live in the same color palette. For example, if one of you wears a soft cream dress, the other might choose a light blue shirt with tan pants. The goal is harmony, not identical outfits.
Flattering Fits and Comfortable Fabrics
Choose pieces that move with you and make you feel good from every angle. Flowy dresses, well-fitted pants, and breathable fabrics are great options. If you’re adjusting or tugging at your clothes the whole time, it’s hard to relax in front of the camera.
Don’t Forget Shoes and Accessories
Shoes and accessories quietly complete your look. We’ll balance comfortable walking shoes with an elevated style, and incorporate details like jewelry, watches, hats, or a favorite jacket to add personality.
Planning Multiple Outfits
If your session allows for an outfit change, I recommend choosing one slightly dressier look and one more casual option. That way, you get a variety of moods and settings in your gallery.
